Ricky is right on the issues
Jobs
He will also work to level the playing field for local small businesses, fighting to make sure national chains pay the same in taxes as do the rest of us.
Taxes
He will work to cut taxes on families by voting to eliminate the sales tax on groceries. Alabama is only one of two states that collects sales tax on groceries. It is wrong for families, wrong for seniors, wrong morally. Ricky Whaley will vote for a bill in the Legislature that eliminates this terrible tax, while protecting schools where all state sales taxes are earmarked.
Ricky will work to close big loopholes that corporations use to pay no Alabama taxes, and use that savings to stop the food tax and protect our children's education.
Education
Our schools have been hard hit by proration and budget cuts. Ricky will fight to see our local schools, community colleges and JSU get their fair share of funding, and he will fight to make sure out-of-state corporations who use loopholes to pay no taxes will do their part for education, just like we do!
The budget cuts have hurt the classroom, made extracurricular programs harder to fund, and put important things like the Math and Science Initiative on hold. We know when we invest in what works in our local schools, progress happens!
Also, Ricky is opposed to Charter Schools. Folks in Calhoun County like their community based schools, whether they are in Piedmont, Jacksonville, Ohatchee, White Plains, Alexandria, or Pleasant Valley.
Charter schools will threaten them, no doubt about it. We do not need to have our children and the money that was going to our schools sent to an Anniston charter school or any other place.
Let's fund what we have now. We can't afford paper and books as it is, how are we going to fund special schools for a few that will take away from the rest of us?
